Are Spanish and Arabic Similar??

Did you know Spanish culture has been shaped by centuries of Moorish rule? Let's look at this fascinating history and explore how it continues to shape modern Spanish culture today!

The Moors were Muslim North Africans who occupied much of what is now present-day Spain from 711 CE until 1492 CE. In that period, they made significant contributions in all areas – from science and mathematics to trade and agriculture.

The cultural impact of Arab rule extended further into language too: around 8 percent (about 4500 words) of all words used in Spanish can be traced back to Arabic origins – for example, ‘aceite’ (oil), 'albaricoque' (apricot), or 'azucar' (sugar). This legacy continues even into modern-day slang terms like 'guay' which means cool/great!
