Do You Know how to read a GPA?


  1. Weighted GPA: Also approximately equal to UC/CSU GPA on some transcripts — includes extra points for A’s (5 points) and B’s (4 points) in AP and Honors Classes.

    • C’s are only 3 points. Take caution when taking AP classes.

  2. Un-weighted GPA: Also called “Total GPA” or “LAUSD GPA” . Grading system as follows:

    • A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points. and D=1 point.

  3. College Academic Merit Award ALMOST ALWAYS are based on Unweighted GPA.

  4. The UC’s & CSU’s read Weighted GPA: Selective private colleges read AP classes qualitatively not quantitatively.
