Lowering Standards Isn’t Equity

"Grading for equity" aims to help underserved students pass classes by lowering academic standards, but this video argues that such practices do more harm than good. Instead of addressing the real issues like lack of resources, poor instruction, and skill gaps, schools are adjusting grades to create the illusion of success, especially in subjects like math where many students, particularly Black students, are already struggling.
The post calls for meaningful support through summer programs, tutoring, and diagnostic tools to promote true learning. It warns that devaluing grades and weakening curriculum requirements will ultimately leave students unprepared for college, careers, and life.
