Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Spouses Education Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1988 by the spouses of Congressional Black Caucus members to address the educational need in the congressional districts in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships, which disproportionately affect people of color. This opportunity awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degrees in a variety of fields.

 

Prerequisites : 

  1. This opportunity awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing an associates, undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree.

  2. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident

  3. Qualified applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution

  4. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  5. Exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities

  6. Selected applicants will be qualified African-American or Black students and constituents of a CBC member’s district.

 

Requirements:

  1. Resume (1-page maximum) detailing your academics, extracurricular activities, honors, employment, community service, and special skills.

  2. A recent photograph that is suitable for publication (i.e., a cap and gown picture, or other professional quality and professionally dressed photograph).

  3. TWO (2) electronically submitted letters of recommendation. We suggest one come from a community or public service leader (i.e. church leader, community leader, volunteer organization). The application provides instructions for your references to upload their letters.

    1. Official transcript (all pages, in color, and legible) scanned and uploaded as ONE (1) PDF file to the Supplemental Questions (which you will access only after you submit your General Application). We are no longer accepting applications via postal mail.

    2. TWO (2) Essay Prompts (250 words maximum each).

    • How does your academic interest align with your long term career goal?

    • If you were a member of congress what issue would you address and how?
